Sunday 9 June: campaign against invasive plants
On 9 June 2013 you can help combat invasive exotic plants in three different parts of the Forêt de Soignes.
Why? Some invasive exotic species are a threat to indigenous biodiversity and ecosystems. Varieties such as the American bird cherry oppress the plants and animals which naturally feel at home in the Sonian Forest. So it’s time to do something!
Leap into action and come along to one of the three parts of the Forêt de Soignes where we are joining forces to combat invasive plants:
- Chemin du Pachy in La Hulpe, opposite the domain of Argenteuil (at the entrance to the forest on the Drève du Fond des Ails side). Contact person: Renaud Delfosse, 0477 39 58 58, renaud.delfosse[at]skynet.be and Sarah Wagschal, 0474 99 16 63
- In the Drève de Lorraine car park in Uccle, near Avenue de l’Hippodrome. Contact person: Steve Carlos Braem, 0472 87 57 45, steve.c.braem[at]gmail.com
- In the car park alongside Chaussée de Tervuren in Tervuren, near Drève de la Demi-Heure. Contact person: Johan Bennekens, 0479 67 94 26, johan.bennekens[at]lne.vlaanderen.be
Practical: bring a pair of gardening gloves with you
Local authorities work together on the future of the forest
A lot of partners, including provinces, municipalities and other authorities, are involved in numerous projects in and around the Sonian Forest. The Sonian Forest consultative group met together for the first time on 19 April 2013.
This consultative group is made up of the provinces and municipalities of the three regions, in addition to the authorities involved in the management of the Sonian Forest, such as the Agency for Roads and Traffic, the Office of Monuments and Sites, Town and Country Planning, etc.
The consultative group is there to detect synergies and conflicts between projects proposed by the different government levels and policy domains within the context of the structural vision for the Sonian Forest. On 19 April the members of the consultative group decided upon how they are going to work together in the future to identify these synergies and conflicts as quickly as possible.
